This is 40

Goals for the year:

Lead a gym 11- I realize this isn’t this most profound accomplishment in a gym, but I can be a puss leader and just needed to get over the hump to try. Did it on the first go. (And many times subsequently). Interestingly my top rope grade is my lead grade is my onsight grade is my boulder grade is my downclimb grade.  Hmmm.

Run sub-6 mile- I just need to go do it.  It would be nice to clear this by a margin so I’m gonna wait it out a little while longer.  My first ever mile when I was 8yo was 6:11 and this has always been the off-the-couch bar that must be cleared.  However, now I’m 40yo and want to be a touch more gentle in my approach to randomly running on the track.  I’ve got 2 weeks and counting.  Trying to bang this out before Kalymnos, though my efforts have shifted substantially and now I’m just trying to remember how to use my abs for some overhung climbing….

UPDATE: I had ~2 weeks to do track workouts after a summer of trail running before leaving for Kalymnos.  On a windy day in October I took to the track and ran a 5:56.  Which met my goal! Huzzah.  I had so much lactic in my R arm that I couldn’t hold my cell phone to listen to music for the last lap.  I drove home, packed, and left for Greece the next morning.

Full Exum- Went up there and realized that it was going to be a winter conditions slog rather than an alpine rock climb.  I really do turn into a total gumbie when you combine rock and ice.  It’s looking like it isn’t going to happen this year.

Cowen- Car to car.  Kind of jingle jangled around trying to find the fucking tarn, spent the whole time wondering if everyone is regularly using the word tarn but me?  The guidebook (or Mtn Project?) suggested that there would be “hundreds of cairns all over the route,” so you can imagine our suppressed concern about seeing only one cairn just after departing Elbow Lake.  I’m not one for cairns, but the promise of many of them, followed by the absence of any of them was a real mindfuck.  I digress.  It was a beautiful day out.  I ran into my ex husband in the middle of a snowfield, which was a bit of a surprise.  Oddly, I wore a pair of earrings that he had made for me 100 years ago that day.  I have not once worn them since we split up, but for some reason I just felt like wearing them that day (I always outdoors in earrings for good luck).  They were like a little homing beacon for him I guess.  So weird.

Ridge Run- Shooting for August.  Trying to build some strength this year to stave off old injuries.

UPDATE: Got a wild hair around 1pm one afternoon and drove up to Fairy Lake, took off with what looked like storm clouds overhead (but no storms in the forecast).  I got real gimpy above Bridger and had to hobble my IT band for a while, making for a slow time.  I didn’t see a soul from Sacajawea to the M.  It was magic.

Tour de Hyalite- If this is still a thing, I’d like to do it.  (Not a thing this year, apparently.)

Run the Rut- Did it.  Had to walk 1-2 downhill miles because of IT band pain around mile 12, which was SO SAD.  But I finished in reasonable form.  Jimmy finished also, on his birthday.  We both felt pretty good about the whole thing.
